Nick's 1st Birthday Party

Well as some of you may or may not know, today was Nick's first birthday party. His actual birthday isn't until Thursday, but we chose to have the party this weekend since next weekend is Easter. He's been a little cranky the past couple of days. He's teething with a combination of allergies and a little cold. Needless to say he isn't his normal "fun" self. The party was a lot of fun even though Nick wasn't. We ate pizza and the older kids had a pinata to break. Eddie is working 12 hour night shifts right now, but with all the noise going on there was no way he could sleep during the festivities. Nick didn't make it through cake, he went to sleep just as cake was being served. That means no pictures of the little guy eating his cake. We're going to do cake again Thursday for some fun pics.

A boy and his ball

I thought we posted this a while ago, but I found out we didn't. So here it is for your viewing pleasure

Can't Decide

OK so nothing new has happened lately, I have been working so has Amanda. Nick walks............. alot; but we have been talking about me getting a new car.

So I am down to 2 cars. One a 2007 GMC Sierra, we know a guy that can get us a great deal and it'll have bells and whistles, it has the better finance options as well. But the other car is a 2007 Infiniti G35 Journey, I do get similar bells and whistles and it is a luxury car....and it's fast, but a little bit more money but not such a good deal with finance options. So I can't decide even after the test drives. Fast and luxurious or big and cool. It makes nick scream..........................................................................................

Don't ask what the pile of clothes are behind him he was trying to help. And the face is a face of joy.

Oh and on another bout of indecision This was the other picture I was going to use but couldn't decide so i am putting it in here.......

I wear glasses now

I've been wearing reading glasses since I was in the 3rd grade, but recently have been having some problems with distance...I have found a solution. My prescription is very very small and the doctor's are shocked I need it, but I have to tell you, it's like a whole new world to me with these on.

Crib for 2

Eddie today decided that he was going to join Nick after his morning nap. He hopped over the side of the crib and laid down on the mattress. He's discovered why Nick likes his crib so much. He said the mattress was pretty comfy and that once Nick started climbing out of his crib and joining us in bed that he was just going to go sleep in Nick's room.

This is the way Nick likes sleeping in his crib though.

St Patrick's Day

Dada had to work on St. Patrick's Day and mama had a get together with some friends, so I drank my green beer at grandma's house this year...but I did not have green eggs and ham, I do not like them...

Something about wearing a shirt with "kiss me" on it that brings out all the kisses in women.

New Shoes and haircut

So I almost only blog about Nick, but I figured that since this is my blog, it's ok if I talk about myself sometimes too...

Last week I was reading my good friend Angela's blog and she had a couple pics up of some REALLY cute shoes. She couldn't decide between green or red. Well I looked at these shoes and thought "those would be adorable in black". So...onto the Nordstrom's website I went and within 15 min an order had been placed along with a text message to Angela telling her of my shoe conquest. Well today was the magic day. I got home from work and my new shoes were here. I absolutely LOVE them. They hurt my big toe a little bit, but I'm willing to make the sacrifice for fashion.
THANK YOU ANGELA!!!
These are my new shoes which I can't wait to wear tomorrow.
Back in October I cut my hair super short. I had been growing it since before we got married and throughout the pregnancy. It was down to the middle of my back. I had been talking about cutting it for quite some time, but Eddie wanted me to wait until Nick was 6 months old to make sure it wasn't just the hormones talking. Well it wasn't the hormones and I cut it short. I had a really cute above the shoulder bob. Now it's March and I got a little tired of how drab and unstylish I felt, so online I went looking for more hairstyles. I found a supercute one and sent it to a few friends for approval. Everyone agreed that I could pull it off. Yesterday was my hair appointment and I walked out with a hairstyle that I absolutely LOVE and want to show off. I told my hairstylist Manuel that I just felt like I need a little bit of trendiness in my hair.

Tuesday afternoon

Tuesday was absolutely gorgeous. Eddie went with us to Kindermusik and brought Nick home while I went and got my hair cut. After his afternoon nap we were trying to figure out what the heck to do with the 11 month old. We went to the park. Nick wanted absolutely nothing to do with the swings, which you'd figure he'd like considering how much he liked his swing as a newborn.
He didn't want to go down the slide even on mom's lap.

All he wanted to do was sit in the sand and sneak bites while mom and dad weren't looking.

A day at the beach

Eddie and I haven't really gone anywhere exciting since last July before he started the academy. Now that he's training his schedule changes every 2 weeks and he actually has 7 days off in between shifts currently. With this new found extra time, we figured it was time for a much needed getaway. The weather has been absolutely gorgeous and a trip to the beach was in order. On Sunday just before Nick's naptime we packed up the car and headed to Santa Cruz. When we got there we walked along the boardwalk and ate some lunch before heading to the sand. We figured Nick would be like every other kid and once he felt the cold ocean water would head the opposite way screaming...boy were we wrong. He couldn't get enough of the water. He wanted to sit and play along with chasing the waves coming in and out. Of course in his mind it was probably a HUGE bath tub.

Nick cried when leaving the water. We figured if our feet were freezing, his had to be too. Our fearless child would have probably argued with us if he could do anything besides grunt, groan, and whine.

All in all we had a wonderful trip even if it was only for a few hours. It was 81 degrees and we all got a little bit of color on our skin. On our trip home we stopped in Concord to let the boy have some time out of the car and we wanted to go to Jamba Juice in the Willow's Shopping Center. Unfortunately Jamba Juice was "closed temporarily due to we have no straws and other stuff"... how do you run out of straws and why wouldn't you just go to the store and buy some more??

Here are some pics from our trip now...

Thoughts

Eddie and I have been having one heck of a time going out in public with Nick lately. He doesn't want to go in his stroller, he'd rather be held or play on the ground in whatever store we are in. He doesn't want to sit in high chairs anymore while out at restaurants, he'd rather stand up and throw his food. When you have a baby you realize that you pay attention to other babies a lot more than you used to. You also tend to ask people how old their little ones are. What we've noticed...you never really see anyone out and about shopping in the mall or out at dinner with a 10-14 month old child. Sure they're out there...but not as prominent as the 6 month olds or 2 year olds. Our conclusion...children this age are just like Nick. Sometimes they are the most well behaved happy little kids, other times they just cry when they don't get their way or you tell them no. In some ways it's very comforting to know that my child is not the demon child, but normal. In other ways it's horrible to know that we have entered the age of temper tantrums. Some nights we're counting down until 6:45 when it's bedtime.

He does like to play with his dada though.

We've also learned that Nick can't be trusted with just a diaper on anymore.

He has become quite the helper though with dishes...

Nick's favorite place to hide and play is the fridge
